About this site

clactoncandidates.co.uk is an independent voter-information site for the 2026 Clacton by-election. It exists to put the basic facts — who is standing, what they say, when and how to vote — in one fast, plain place.

Neutrality

This site is not affiliated with, funded by, or coordinated with any political party, candidate or campaign, and it does not endorse anyone. We aim to describe every candidate and party in neutral terms, present candidates' positions in their own words wherever possible, and report both the allegations and the responses where events are contested, with sources.

One exception, stated plainly: from 12 August 2026 the home page and the candidates page carry a featured entry for one candidate, Kai Stephens (British Democrats), placed first and at greater length than the others. That is an editorial decision by this site's editor, taken because the candidate was judged to be under-covered elsewhere. It is not an endorsement of him or of his party's platform, and it was not requested or approved by the candidate or his agent. No payment was received for it. We no longer claim that every candidate receives identical prominence, because that is no longer true. Every other candidate remains listed in ballot-paper order with the same entry format, and any candidate on the ballot can ask for the same featured treatment.

Sources and accuracy

Factual claims are cited at the point they are made. Primary sources for election administration are the Electoral Commission and Tendring District Council (the returning authority). The candidate list is taken directly from the Statement of Persons Nominated published by Tendring District Council on 17 July 2026, and cross-checked against WhoCanIVoteFor (Democracy Club). Reporting on the events that led to the by-election draws on coverage by the New Statesman, LBC, The Scotsman, GB News and others, linked where used.

For candidates and agents

If you are standing in the by-election and would like your entry updated — a photo, a short statement, key positions, campaign links — email candidates@clactoncandidates.co.uk. Every candidate on the ballot is offered the same entry format on the same terms, and can also request the featured placement described above.
